36 RMSC swimmers traveled to the famous IU Natatorium in Indianapolis from July 22-26 for the NCSA Summer Championships, which featured almost 1200 Junior National level swimmers from over 60 teams from all over the Country. RMSC finished 14th combined, with the Boys finishing 11th and the Girls 15th. Since the events were highly contested, 40 swimmers made it back to finals, with the top 24 scoring points for the team.
Nicholas Liberty was our lone Junior National Champion with his 1st place in 1500 free in a Senior National cut (15:40.04). He was also 3rd in 800 free (8:16.71), and 8th in 400 free (4:04.06). Angela Kadoorie was our team’s leading scorer at the meet with 108 points. She was 3rd in 200 breast (2:32.58), 5th in 100 breast (1:11.65), 8th in 200 IM (2:20.67), and top 16 in 200 fly and 400 IM. Mara Ahearn was 4th in 800 free (8:58.04), 7th in in 400 free (4:22.52), top 16 in 1500 free, and top 40 in 200 free. Jack Hamilton took 5th in 50 breast (29.37). Trevor Donley was 6th in 800 free (8:23.37), top 16 in 400 IM, and top 24 in 400 free. Viona Sunjaya finished top 16 in 50 breast and 100 breast, and top 24 in 200 breast. Cooper Zakorchemny was top 16 in 400 free and 1500 free, and top 24 in 800 free. Jack Dawson was top 16 in 50 breast, and top 24 in 100 breast and 200 breast. Gabby Day was to 16 in 50 free and top 24 in 100 free. Jackson Puchek finished top 16 in 200 breast, and added a top 40 in 100 breast. Daniel Mulla was top 24 in 100 fly and 50 free, and broke the 15-16 Team record in 50 free with a 24.13. Izzy Mason was top 24 in 400 free and added a top 40 in 200 fly, while Brig Barnett finished top 24 in 50 back. Also making finals appearances by finishing in the top 40 were: Jack Gravell, Shou Iimi, Maddie Inman, Brooke Lakso, Jonathan Lombardo, Levi Smith, and Annie Tansey.
Our team also had many outstanding relay performances which contributed to our team’s scoring. The Girls broke the Senior Team record in 400 medley relay (Maddie Inman, Angela Kadoorie, Anika Cai, Gabby Day), finishing 11th in 4:21.24. The top Boys’ finish was a 10th in 800 free relay (Trevor Donley, Cooper Zakorchemny, Daniel Mulla, Brig Barnett). They also had a top 16 finish in the 400 medley relay (Barnett, Jack Hamilton, Mulla, Donley). Also contributing to the team in top 24 relays were: Mara Ahearn, Jack Dawson, Gabby Day, Patrick Fisher, Shou Iimi, Alex Jungbluth, Kevin Lee, Jonathan Lombardo, Izzy Mason, Viona Sunjaya, and Annie Tansey.
