RMSC OSC 2024-2025 Season - Informational Flyer

RMSC is a year-round, United States of America Swimming (USAS) affiliated, age group and senior swim team. The team competes through Potomac Valley Swimming (PVS), which is our local swim committee (LSC) for USAS. RMSC offers a rewarding training and competitive experience to swimmers of all ability and interest levels through a schedule of flexible practice times.

Swimmers new to the program must attend a tryout (skill assessment) for group placement at the pool of their choice. Please view the tryout information listed under the “Joining RMSC” tab for all details and minimum qualifications. Coaches will assign practice groups depending on skill level, due to program constraints, not all swimmers who meet the minimum requirements will be offered a placement. Newcomers, who are offered a group placement, may not begin to practice with their designated group until all registration requirements have been completed including registration payment.

Entry into advanced level groups is available by coaches' invitation only. Those who participated in the program last year may register only for the group with which they practiced last year. No swimmer may change group assignment unless instructed by coach.

Meet Entry Procedures

Meet announcements are posted on the RMSC bulletin board with entry due dates.

Coaches will notify the athletes of which meets your group will be attending. They will then let you know if the coach will sign the swimmers up or if the swimmers should sign themselves up. If the swimmers are asked to sign up on their own, they should go to the bulletin board to review the entry procedures and deadline.   To enter a meet, fill out a meet sign up sheet, which is located on the table in the lobby directly below the bulletin board.  Entry slip must include: swimmer’s name, event numbers, and name. Place slip in the wooden box on the table below the bulletin board by the posted due date.

Meet the RMSC-OSC Lead Coaches

National Training Group - Dave Kraft

Dave has been coaching at RMSC-Olney since 1996. He has coached the NTG group since 2013, after a 13-year run as NDG coach. Over the years, his athletes have recorded over 380 nationally-ranked swims and over 145 1st place finishes at 14&U Champs, and have broken 85 PVS records and 2 National Age Group records. Dave's NTG and NDG alumni have continued to excel, as over 100 have gone on to compete at the collegiate level.  He had six compete at each of the 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, three qualifiers in 2021, and two more in 2024.  Dave won the ASCA PVS Age Group Coach of the Year Award in 2005, and became the first two-time recipient of the Award in 2009.

In his younger days, Dave swam for RMSC, and then at Washington College.  He is also the coach at Mill Creek Towne in the summers, and was inducted into the MCSL Hall of Fame in 2022.  When he's not coaching, he teaches Calculus at Magruder High School, and spends time with his wife Kelly and daughters Amanda and Allison (sometimes in the stands as an RMSC parent).

Advanced Juniors - Daniel Benedetti

Danny Benedetti is the lead coach of the Advanced Junior Group.  Danny began his swimming career as an age group swimmer at the Aspen Hill Swim Club from 1990-2003.  In high school he swam for Good Counsel.  Danny attended the University of Maryland where he graduated in 2008 with a Physical Education degree.  Danny was an assistant swim coach at Stonegate Swim Club from 2004-2008 and is the head coach of Connecticut Bel Air Swim Team.

Junior 2 - Jon Leong

My name is Jonny Leong and I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm of swimming with all the athletes that come on the pool deck.  I have been with RMSC since 2003 working with just about every single group at one site or another.  I have spent time at KSAC, GISC, and am happy to be at OSC currently.  I coach an MCSL team during the summer as well as an MCPS High School team during the high school season.  I look forward to see the athletes perform their best and have a fun time.

Advanced Seniors - Brad Coyle

Brad was a swimmer with RMSC-Olney during his high school years, spending a year each in the Senior and Advanced Senior programs before finishing his last two years in NTGs. Brad has been coaching since 1999 in various positions, including learn-to-swim programs, MCPS high school teams, summer swim teams, and USA Swimming programs. Brad started coaching for RMSC in 2006 at the Germantown site and was also an assistant coach for NTGs at MLK before moving to Olney. In addition to his time with RMSC, Brad has also coached at the Upper-Montgomery County YMCA and with Bluefish Swim Club in Massachusetts.
