RMSC GISC 2025-2026 Season - Informational Flyer

RMSC is a year-round, United States of America Swimming (USAS) affiliated, age group and senior swim team. The team competes through Potomac Valley Swimming (PVS), which is our local swim committee (LSC) for USAS. RMSC offers a rewarding training and competitive experience to swimmers of all ability and interest levels through a schedule of flexible practice times.

Swimmers new to the program must attend a tryout (skill assessment) for group placement at the pool of their choice. Please view the tryout information listed under the “Joining RMSC” tab for all details and minimum qualifications. Coaches will assign practice groups depending on skill level, due to program constraints, not all swimmers who meet the minimum requirements will be offered a placement. Newcomers, who are offered a group placement, may not begin to practice with their designated group until all registration requirements have been completed including registration payment.

Entry into advanced level groups is available by coaches' invitation only. Those who participated in the program last year may register only for the group with which they practiced last year. No swimmer may change group assignment unless instructed by coach.

Meet Entry Procedures

Meet announcements are posted on the RMSC bulletin board with entry due dates.

Coaches will notify the athletes of which meets your group will be attending. They will then let you know if the coach will sign the swimmers up or if the swimmers should sign themselves up. If the swimmers are asked to sign up on their own, they should go to the bulletin board to review the entry procedures and deadline.   To enter a meet, fill out a meet sign up sheet, which is located in the lobby (between the rest rooms) below the bulletin board.  Entry slip must include: swimmer’s name, event numbers, and name. Place slip in the black meet entry cabinet below the bulletin board by the posted due date.

Meet the RMSC-GISC Lead Coaches

National Training Group - Bill Shechtman

Bill has been coaching for 34 years in which 26 years have been for RMSC.  He has coached in Northern California for 6 years and was the head coach of the Upper Montgomery YMCA in Gaithersburg.  He coached Country Glen for 10 summers, Indian Spring Country Club for 8 summers, BCC, Churchill, Sherwood, and now Northwest High School.  He started the Rockville Masters progam and proudly started the Partnership swimming program for the Special Olympics which went on for 7 years. Throughout his career in coaching, he has coached one swimmer to the World Championships in Rome as well as many Sr/Jr National swimmers.  He has coached many promising athletes and looks forward to coaching more.

Advanced Senior Group - Ryan Yuen

It all began in the year of 1987. Not only did the Washington Redskins end up winning the Super Bowl, but Ryan Yuen was born.

Ryan began working with RMSC in the fall of 2010 as an assistant coach.  While primarily with the Advanced Senior group, he also assisted with the Mini, Junior, Advanced Junior and Senior groups.  In the spring of 2011, he became the lead coach of the Advanced Senior group.

In addition to RMSC, Ryan has been a long time member of the MCSL.  After swimming with the Middlebridge Marlins, for 13 years, he immediately took over the head coach position after graduating.  He coached at Middlebridge for 6 years until he took his talents over to King Farm in 2013.  Ryan was a 4 year varsity swimmer for John F. Kennedy High School as well as a member of the Towson University Men's Swim Team.

Senior Group - Alison Winingham

Alison started her swimming career with the Germantown Torpedoes in 2005 where her passion for swimming began.  While attending college at Towson University she spent her summers as an assistant coach for the Torpedoes.  She graduated in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management.  Alison has worked with a few summer swim teams in Montgomery County such as the Northlake Dolphins, Germantown Torpedoes, Darnestown Demons, and in 2026 she became the Head Coach of the Potomac Glen Gators.

Alison began coaching for RMSC in 2021 where she has worked with the Minis, Juniors, Advanced Juniors, and Senior groups.  During the school year she also coaches for SwiMontgomery, Montgomery Stroke and Turn Clinic, and the Germantown Masters.  Alison loves being a coach and sharing her love for swimming with others.
