RMSC Catches "Indiana Fever" at NCSA Summer Championships

Indianapolis, IN, July 24-28

33 RMSC swimmers traveled to Indianapolis for the NCSA Summer Championships (Junior Nationals) at the famous IUPUI Natatorium, which featured over 1000 swimmers from almost 100 teams from all over the Country.  The team finished 7th Combined, with the Boys finishing 7th and the Girls finishing 10th.  Since the events were highly contested, 40 swimmers made it back to finals, with the top 24 scoring points for the team.

Leading the team with 132 points was Andrea Dworak.  Andrea won the 200 free (17-18 and Senior Team record 2:01.06) and 800 free (8:51.17), she was 2nd in 400 free, 7th in 100 free, and top 16 in 200 back (17-18 and Senior Team record 2:15.94).  Cooper Zakorchemny led the boys with 93 points.  He won the 800 free (15-16 and Senior Team Record 8:07.02), was 3rd in 400 free (15-16 Team record 3:57.00), was 8th in 1500 free, top 16 in 200 free, and top 32 in 400 IM.  Angela Kadoorie finished 2nd in 200 breast (15-16 and Senior Team record 2:32.18), 5th in 400 IM, top 16 in 100 breast, and top 24 in 200 fly and 200 IM.  Griffin Oehler was 6th in 200 IM, 7th in 100 back, top 16 in 200 back, and top 32 in 200 free (15-16Team record 1:54.14) and 100 fly.  Josh Lopez was 6th in 200 fly, top 16 in 200 free, top 24 in 800 free, and top 32 in 400 free.  Maria Webb was 8th in 200 fly, and finished top 40 in 50 fly, 100 fly, and 400 IM.  Alex Nguyen placed top 16 in 1500 free, and top 24 in 400 and 800 free.  Alex Jungbluth finished top 16 in 200 fly, and top 24 in 100 fly, while Brian Wilbur finished top 16 in 50 breast and top 24 in 100 breast.  Tyler Coapstick was top 16 in 50 free, while Gabby Day was top 24 in 50 free and 100 free.  Nick Liberty was top 24 in 1500 free and top 40 in 800 free, while Daniel Prins added a top 24 in 200 fly.  Also making finals appearances with top 40 finishes were: Charlie Begin, Anika Cai, Roman Drews, Natalia Evans-Gibson, Chase Keeler, Kellie Kincaid, Lizzie Linck, Mimi Moore, Seamus Rooney, and Viona Sunjaya.

We had many excellent team performances in relays as well.  Our top relay was the Boys 800 Free relay team of Josh Lopez, Cooper Zakorchemny, Griffin Oehler, and Alex Nguyen, who finished 4th.  Our top Girls’ finish was 9th in the 800 free relay by Andrea Dworak, Maria Webb, Gabby Day, and Kellie Kincaid, which broke the Team record (8:28.57).  The Boys team of Griffin Oehler, Brian Wilbur, Alex Jungbluth, and Tyler Coapstick also finished 9th in both 200 and 400 medley relays.  Also contributing to top 40 relays were: Linus Ament, Guillermo Ancheta, Charlie Begin, Anika Cai, Jack Dawson, Angela Kadoorie, Chase Keeler, Nick Liberty, Lizzie Linck, Zoe McGee, Mimi Moore, Daniel Prins, Seamus Rooney, Lukas Shafer, Viona Sunjaya, and Celia Watkins
