RMSC’s 14 and Under Swimmers traveled to Orlando for Age Group NCSA’s on March 22-25 and placed FIRST overall as a team! The last time RMSC finished first at this meet was in 2019!
It was an exciting meet! The meet featured over 1100 swimmers from across the nation which is the largest number of athletes ever to compete in this meet. RMSC entered 122 swimmers which was also a record number of participants for any team. RMSC began the meet at nearly a 150-point deficit at the initial outset of the first day of competition. However, we slowly chipped away at that deficit over the course of the week in a back-and-forth battle with NOVA. In the last session of the meet, RMSC entered the final two events (50 free and the 400 medley relay) down by about 25 points. Our swimmers performed magnificently in these two final events to ultimately best NOVA 2853.5 to 2774.5! Teams are also recognized for their achievement by gender at this meet. RMSC’s boys topped the rest of the boys’ field placing first in that half of the competition.
We had quite a few outstanding individual achievements at the meet which in turn contributed to the overall team effort. Jeremiah Germosen placed in the TOP 3 in ALL NINE of his individual events including placing first in 11-12 Boys 50 fly, 100 fly, 50 free and 100 IM. Rafael Fontana placed in the TOP 4 in SEVEN races including placing first in 11-12 Boys 200 fly. Charlie Begin scored in NINE races and placed in the top 10 in eight of those nine races. Charlie also won 13-14 Boys 500 free. Griffin Oehler also scored in NINE races including placing in the top 10 in ALL of his races. Alexander Jungbluth scored in ALL TEN of his events including placing in the top 10 in seven of those races. Giselle Quach also scored in ALL TEN of her events including placing in the top 10 in nine of those races.
In an incredible display of depth and speed, RMSC swimmers swam to many additional top 10 individual event finishes. Congratulations to Shou Iimi (6 top 10 individual event finishes), Seine Lee (6), Mason Maready (5), Seamus Rooney (5), Jack Dawson (3), Brian Sunjaya (3), Anika Cai (2), Finley Chong (2), Haruki Ohtani (2), Dylan Pino (2), Dennis Burimski (1), Elizabeth Chan (1), Gabby Day (1), Audrey Decatur (1), Jonah Ginsberg (1), Jordan Hernandez-Fuentes (1), Marion Hooker (1), Justin Joung (1), Brooke Lakso (1), Nicholas Liberty (1), Jonathan Lombardo (1), Isabella Mason (1), Caroline McConnell (1), Colton Mettler (1), Brandon Pino (1), Jenna Ryan (1), Gracie Schur (1), Viona Sunjaya (1) and Joseph Xu (1). Successful RELAYS also played a huge role in RMSC’s victory. Once again, RMSC demonstrated the importance of team depth by being the only team in the meet to score in all 48 relays that were offered. This included first place finishes in the 11-12 Girls 200 free, 11-12 Boys 200 free, 11-12 Boys 400 free, 11-12 Boys 200 medley, 11-12 Boys 400 medley, 13-14 Boys 200 free, 13-14 Boys 400 free, 13-14 Boys 200 medley and 13-14 Boys 400 medley.
